Short of a few little upgrades here and there when parts wore to needing replacing on my old car, I never really did any modifications to it. I believe the biggest for it was getting the windows tinted. I remember that it was hot as hell that summer, I had just recently bought the car, and I was coming from a minivan where the windows were tinted and I could easily change in there. Being on the go a lot and away from home I'm often changing in the car so it's nice when you are in a giant fishbowl if people can't see in plain as day. Based on that I decided to bite the bullet, spend the money and get them tinted with a good tint.

With my newer car, I bought it with some mods already on it and it ran alright since my buddy always drove it and never had any issues. I of course wanted to be 100% certain so I went to get a tune, I figured throw it in to the cost of the car, and that found a few issues with some hoses and warranted for some reliability upgrades. I got a better flowing fuel pump, changed my fuel filter, got an electronic boost controller which is easier for the tuner to control, a new MAF sensor, and some spark plugs. Awesome, the tuner did a fantastic job and gave me a reliable tune and having had everything check out on a dyno I figured I was good to go and didn't need to worry about a whole lot.

A few months later I get a rip in my turbo inlet so I go ahead and order another aftermarket one to replace it. Easy enough. Now it is winter and I'm thinking of buying some sway bars/mounts/endlinks when the snow melts, but for once it's not because I need to or have a good opportunity to upgrade it. It's because I want to make my car more enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, I love driving my car but after so long you notice little things like some body roll here and a little lack of power there.

For me, my cars have mostly just been daily drivers that I occasionally upgrade when parts break. Now I feel like I could be moving in to a mindset of upgrading because it would be a blast, having a steady job might help too.

There are people out there who plan out everything they are going to do to it before they even buy the car. People who just have an ongoing project with no real end in sight, just keep building and adding new parts/swapping out old ones. Those who remain stock and replace anything with OEM.

Just curious how everyone else views their…modifying relationship? with their cars.
